WHAT IF YOU SLEPT ON TOP OF THE CAR?
DSC07118-minCamping more than two metres off the ground, in tents with a built-in mattress, and waking up in a different place every day. This is the proposal from Topo Tents, a roof-top tent rental brand that wants to offer a different way of travelling. These are not conventional tents, nor are they common in Portugal, but they could become popular with lovers of camping and other outdoor activities. At least, that's the aim of Topo Tents, a Portuguese start-up that rents roof tents, i.e. tents that can be installed (literally) on the roof of a car. The advantages? Being able to camp anywhere accessible on four wheels, at a considerable height from the ground, and being safe from animals and dust. In addition to safety, comfort is another concern for those responsible at Topo Tents, which is why all the tents come with a high-density foam mattress, six centimetres thick. In addition, the windows have mosquito nets and the service includes an aluminium telescopic ladder for climbing into the tent.DSC07118-min@madalenafcardoso-minBut these aren't Topo Tents' only arguments to convince the more adventurous or even the curious who have never been camping but would like to give it a try. ‘Compared to conventional tents, roof tents differ in terms of portability, safety and functionality. They are more robust, made of resistant materials and comfortable, as they include a high mattress that will convince those who are averse to camping. And they're easy to set up: a single person can assemble and disassemble them in less than two minutes,’ says José Ramos, founder of Topo Tents. “Choosing the best terrain is no longer a problem, as you only need to have the car minimally levelled to camp, even if it's on mud or rocks,” he adds, noting that the small window in the roof of the tents allows you to “fall asleep watching the stars”. https://marketeer.sapo.pt/e-se-dormisse-no-topo-do-carro
